Established in 2021 Legacy Consulting Engineers is a niche family-run Structural, Civil and Geotechnical design consultancy owned by Gary Layfield. Based in Porirua, Wellington, Gary covers the whole of the lower North Island from Wellington to Palmerston North and across to the Wairarapa and is happy to work NZ wide on request.

Gary works closely with clients to fully understand their needs and provides design solutions tailor made to meet requirements that are within budget, easy to construct and delivered within project timeframes, no matter the size of project.
All design work is carried out by owner/ director Gary Layfield who is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and a Chartered Member of Engineers New Zealand (CMEngNZ) with over 20 years of experience working as a consulting design engineer in both the UK and New Zealand.
All designs are fully compliant with the New Zealand building code. Regular site inspections carried out during key stages in construction to ensure site work fully reflects the design intent.

Geotechnical Ground Investigations
Geotechnical ground investigations is completed for new foundation design to assess the physical and engineering properties of the soil and rock beneath a site. Scala penetrometer and shear vane testing is used in conjunction with hand augers.
